Guido de Baisio taught canon law in Reggio and later in particular at the University of Bologna. In 1296 Pope Boniface VIII. appointed him archdeacon, a post that gave him supervision over doctoral degrees at the university and thus the position of a university chancellor. In 1301 he was given the chair as professor for the Decretum Gratiani in Bologna and from 1304 served Pope Innocence III as a jurist, whom he followed to Avignon, where he later died. The Rosarium Decretorum is the most important and most comprehensive commentary on the Decretum Gratiani. It was completed in 1300 and enjoyed the same prestige as the Glossa ordinaria of Johannes Teutonicus.
