Ernst Zitelmann (1852-1932), Rechtsprofessor an der Universität Bonn, war einer der herausragenden Rechtswissenschaftler in der Übergangszeit von der Spätpandektistik zum Zivilrecht des BGB. Bekannt wurde Zitelmann auch durch sein Lebenswerk zum Internationalen Privatrecht. Ernst Zitelmann, geboren am 7. August 1852 in Stettin, studierte ab 1870 in Heidelberg und wechselte wenig später zu Karl Georg von Wächter nach Leipzig und zum großen Pandektisten Bernhard Windscheid. Nach seiner Promotion 1873 in Leipzig habilitierte er in Göttingen, wo er auch zum Extraordinarius ernannt wurde. 1879 zum ordentlichen Professor befördert, wechselte er 1879 nach Rostock. Er nahm 1881 einen Ruf nach Halle an und lehrte schließlich ab 1884 in Bonn Römisches und Deutsches Bürgerliches Recht. Ernst Zitelmann, born on 7 August 1852 in Stettin, studied in Heidelberg from 1870 before joining Karl Georg von Wächter and the great pandectist Bernhard Windscheid in Leipzig shortly after. After his doctorate in Leipzig in 1873, he was awarded his habilitation in Göttingen, where he was also appointed junios professor. In 1879 he became a full professor and moved to Rostock in the same year. Thereafter, he accepted a call to Halle in 1881, before finally moving to in Bonn in 1884 where he taught Roman and German civil law.
